Vectron Announces Enhancements to the World’s Smallest Space Qualified Clock with Swept Quartz

New Crystal Development for High Reliability Space Applications Enables Leading Satellite Manufacturers to Reduce Payload Costs

Today MSC Vertriebs GmbH announced enhancements to Vectron’s existing family 1118 of high reliability clock oscillators with swept quartz. The “E”, “R” and “B” platforms all contain swept quartz crystals. These eliminate the potential for significant frequency shifts and enable devices for operating in harsh environments.

The model 1118 is the world’s smallest high reliability crystal oscillator measuring 5 x 7 mm enclosure. It performs highest expectations for a space-qualified, hybrid clock according to Vectron’s OS-68338 specification which defines the design, assembly and functional evaluation of high reliability, hybrid clock oscillators such as environmentally rugged construction, minimized footprint and radiation-hardened design on request. Devices complying to this specification features standardized parts, materials and processes (PMP) program developed, implemented and are certified for advanced applications and extended environments.

The model 1118 exceeds stringent MIL-STD-202 shock and vibration levels normally imposed for tactical and space flight environments. Minimum figures are a random vibration with method 214, cond. II-J (43.92g rms), the sine vibration with method 204, cond. G (30g peak) and at least the mechanical shock with method 213, cond. F (1500g, 0.5ms).

Designed for standard 5.0 Vdc operation, optional 3.3 Vdc input is available on request at MSC Vertriebs GmbH.

 Vectron's new VMEM5Q Crystal Oscillator

Half a year ago MSC signed a distribution contract with Vectron International, a world leader in design, manufacturing and marketing of frequency control, sensor, and hybrid product solutions. Vectron uses latest techniques in both bulk acoustic wave (BAW) and surface acoustic wave (SAW) based designs from DC to microwave frequencies. Apart from varous other devices, Vectron’s product portfolio contains the new compact oscillators VMEM5Q. They are  suited for the manufacturing of smart munitions, projectile electronics, missiles, gun-hardened and other highshock and vibration applications.

Vectron's new compact oscillator VMEM5Q ideal for high-shock and vibration applications, utilizing Discera's Pure Silicon™ MEMS resonator, is available from 1 to 130 MHz and offers operation in a -40 to +85 degree Celsius temperature range with 100 and 50 ppm stabilities.

The high shock resistant clock oscillator operates from 3.3 V supply and has an enable/disable feature to allow the clock output to be disabled for board testing. The VMEM5Q is housed in a 5 x 3.2 mm QFN package and has passed Vectron's rigorous qualification testing including MIL-PRF-55310.

In just 2 days - Oscillators Feature Custom Frequency

TST TAI-SAW Technology Realizes Samples and Pre-Series in a Minimum of Time!

With the PCXO-3225 and PCXO-2520 series programmable oscillators by TST TAI-SAW Technology offers a clock source that is suitable for many frequencies delivered in avery short time. The programmable oscillators PCXO have an internal PLL and can generate frequencies within a range of 1 to 166 MHz. They are available in 3.2 x 2.5 mm and 2.5 x 2mm SMD packages also used for standard oscillators with direct frequency generation. The operating temperature ranges from -20 to +70°C with a frequency tolerance of ±25 ppm or -40 to +85°C with ±50 ppm. All programmable oscillators are RoHS compliant and lead free for lead-free soldering.

The PCXO series oscillators are manufactured as “blanks” and can be set at a later point in time by programming the internal PLL for the desired source frequency. This results in the capability to program small lots on short notice at MSC Vertriebs GmbH and deliver them within 48 hours. There is no minimum ordering quantity for the PCXO series.

Macronix Breaks the 128 Mbit Barrier for Serial Flash in an Innovative and Simple Way

Macronix DiagramSerial flash memory using the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) utilizes a 24-bit addressing scheme that limits the maximum density to 128 Mbits. However, to be able to add new features, applications require greater densities. For these serial flash applications requiring more storage, many system engineers have been forced to search for alternative memory solutions. While other non-volatile memory solutions will work, they don’t offer the well known advantages of serial flash - such as lower pin-count, smaller footprint, simplified board layout&design, reduced system noise/EMI, and reduced system cost. The ideal solution would be a serial flash device capable of breaking the 128 MB density barrier. As leading manufacturer of serial flash memory, Macronix has solved this problem by providing an innovative and simple operation mode; it extends the addressable range from 24-to 32-bits. The increased address range will accommodate future serial flash memories starting with 256 MB to densities as large as 32 GB. Macronix is currently offering serial flash densities up to 256 MB, but with 32-bit addressing, there is plenty of room for future density increases.

Potential market applications are mainly system applications related to the storage of large application image files, as WiMAX, high-end data communication, set-top boxes, storage, high-end server and projector applications. Since high-density serial flash memory can provide high capacity storage combined with a low pin count, it’s the ideal solution for system processors/ controllers storing large program code images in non-volatile memory. In addition to code storage, a high density serial flash will have sufficient space for data storage, e.g. user data/configuration files that can be stored in the memory space not utilized by the code image. In other words, the market urge to adopt high-density serial flash memory is getting stronger.

There are up to 11 commands that require a 24-bit address for operation. Since there is already a large number of commands requiring an address, adding a new set of 32- bit address commands would double them. This would add complexity to the design of the silicon and increase its cost. To avoid this, the 256 Mbit serial flash can switch between addressing modes with only two newly added commands.

The actual method of operation is similar to the existing general command format where CS# is first driven low, followed by clocking in the 8-bit command for either entering (e.g. B7) or exiting (e.g. E9) the 32- bit addressing mode. Afterwards, one can use the standard commands in the normal fashion as long as one uses the appropriate number of address bits for the selected addressing mode.

Backwards compatibility to existing serial flash products was an important design consideration. This was fully achieved by the following methods:

  • The 256 MB memory is always power-up in 24-bit addressing mode.
  •  32-bit addressing mode is needed to access the hole 256 MB.
  • The contents can be dumped to DRAM in 24-bit addressing mode.
  • Since using an internal 32-bit address counter, the entire content can be accessed in 24-bit address mode.

That means that neither the processor nor the controller has to be modified and existing software using the 24-bit addressing scheme can be used.

Macronix breaks through the serial flash density barrier with a new 32-bit address mode that enables memory densities of 256 Mb and higher. System designers can continue to use the SPI structure for their new high density applications and still benefit from cost advantages of low pin count devices. Software engineers don’t have to worry about rewriting software but can continue to use their existing software and enhance it to take advantage of additional memory space. For the industry, this represents a milestone in the advancement of high-density serial flash and expands wideranging applications of serial flash memory.

Since 2005 FALCOM products are available at MSC Vertriebs GmbH. With steadily increasing sales a very successful partnership has developed. And the cooperation between those partners is still growing. By now MSC is granted a certain degree of influence on FALCOM production and development.

TELEMATICS SYSTEMS

FALCOM / MSC Telematics Systems consist of two parts. On one hand the hardware and on the other hand the software. FALCOM develops its devices in a way that the customer is provided with a free to configure/program platform. It is customizable for almost all specific needs. Off course, our field application engineers provide advice as well as second level support.

It is possible to have customer specific applications developed by MSC Vertriebs GmbH for large projects. Thus we can guarantee that every customer will get a product with applications developed for his respective demands only; even when the outside seems to be equal to other products. An additional advantage of our telematics systems is that they could be integrated into already existing environments easily. Therefore a realization of change in hardware is very simple.

Vehicle Tracking

Image 1 shows FALCOM’s great demand vehicle tracking systems BOLERO-LT, STEPPIII and the new FOX-LT. They are designed for simple tracking and tracing applications as well as for complex fleet management tasks. The BOLERO-LT is a low cost plug and play device that can be installed in a few seconds with its detachable suction cup, its integrated antennas and an adapter for the cigarette lighter. It is tailor made for solutions when fixed installation are not permitted, unwanted or a maximum of flexibility is required.

STEPPIII is designed for fixed installation. With its huge equipment almost all demands can be met. FOX-LT positions itself right between those two mentioned before although its price is close to that of BOLERO-LT. Advanced Personal-Tracking

MAMBO2 is an advanced personal tracking device that combines besides its SirfStar III GPS receiver a Quad Band GSM/GPRS module. It is already equipped with a color display and highly sensitive 3-axis motion senor. It is powered by a lithium-polymer battery or with an optional docking station. Its menus can be navigated with a 5-way-joystick and two buttons. Like the vehicle tracking devices it can communicate via Voice, Data, SMS, Email, GPRS and TCP/IP. Therefore it is possible to connect it to a server that allows real time tracking. All of our devices can be updated over-the-air during runtime.

Available are two different kinds of user interfaces. The simple GUI (image 3) shows its user only the starting screen, the optionally available phone book and device shut down. Running on this mode it is perfectly capable to send preconfigured alarms via SMS, E-mail, or to a server.

The device can generate alarms or events automatically. They can be triggered for example by the motion sensor (acceleration, fall, movement, bearing) or with one of hundred geofences that can be managed with the device. Furthermore with this personal tracker its user can send an alarm via the optionally available key fob without actually carrying the device. This is possible in ranges up to 100 metres. Should the MAMBO2 be out of GSM reception all positions are stored in its up to 300,000 positions large history and can be send when GSM reception is re-established.

The second user interface or standard/sports GUI shows up to eleven menus to the user. Among them are GPS-, GSM-, and battery-status, phone book, mailbox, options and settings as well as a user menu that can be programmed with user applications. Also available are following functions: Speed, Hight, Distance and a simple navigation tool with bearing and waypoints. Optionally the MAMBO2 can be equipped with ANT interface to connect sensors for heart frequency measurement. Because of its splash-proof and shock resistant case it is perfect for mobile workforce, trekking and hiking, athletes, kids and disabled persons.

NEW: MAMBO2 PORTABLE POWER PACK

Image 5 shows the new portable power pack which provides 3000 mAh to multiply MAMBO2s runtime by the factor 2.5. The connection is simply done via a USB-connection port. Its dimensions are 83 x 77 x 16 millimetres and 113 grams.

New mega AVR with 128 KB Flash in Small 44-Pin Package!

MSC Vertriebs GmbH and Atmel Corporation announced the availability of a 128 KB picoPower megaAVR microcontroller, targeting size-constrained, low-power applications. 

The ATmega1284P comes in a small 44-pin package and features ultra-low-power consumption, 128 KB flash as well as 16 KB random access memory (RAM). Therefore it is perfectly equipped for various applications such as wireless and ethernet nodes, home automation and other code-intensive battery or signal-line powered products.

ATmega1284P reduces design footprint by doubling flash and quadrupling RAM size compared to existing picoPower megaAVR microcontrollers.

With its16 KB of SRAM, it is the ideal controller for low-power applications that traditionally need external SRAM. By removing the external SRAM and address latch, the ATmega1284P significantly reduces the bill-of-material, manufacturing cost, complexity and development time. It consumes 100 nA in power-down mode, 700 nA in power-save mode and 0.45 mA in active mode at 1.8 V and 1 MHz.

The ATmega1284P is pin- and feature-compatible to the ATmega164PA, ATmega324PA, and ATmega644PA. The four devices provide a drop-in migration path from 16 to 128 KB of flash and 1 to 16 KB of RAM.

Lattice Simplifies System Control Applications with MachXO Control Development Kit

MSC Vertriebs GmbH announced the immediate availability of the new MachXO Control Development kit of Lattice Semiconductor in combination with 12 new reference designs, ideal for prototyping system control functions such as temperature and current monitoring, power supply sequencing, fan control and fault logging, that are commonly found in telecom infrastructures, servers as well as industrial and medical applications.

The new kit offers designers of CPLDs and low-density FPGAs a comprehensive suite of board management and system control resources to enable the development of system control designs.

Lattice_Fan_Control_using_MachXODesigned for general purpose I/O expansion, interface bridging and power-up management functions, the instant-on, easy-to-use MachXO programmable logic device (PLD) family offers customers an “All-in-One-PLD” by providing distributed and embedded memory, built-in PLLs, high performance LVDS I/O, remote field upgrade (Lattice’s TransFRTM technology) and a low power sleep mode, all in a single device.

YDS Presents DC/DC Converters and Network Components

Excellent characteristics, improved efficiency, smaller size, high reliability and competitive cost – if these are the key aspects you expect from DC/DC converters, LAN components, Ethernet magnetics, miniature power chokes and other inductive components, check the products of YDS that have recently been added to our product line.

Yuan Dean Scientific Co., Ltd (YDS) was established in 1990. The company’s first products, direct drop-in replacements for popular industry standard DC/DC converters, delay lines, Ethernet, T1 and ISDN transformers, soon were complemented by improved models. Today, with over twenty years of experience in designing and manufacturing a wide portfolio of inductive products, YDS is a leading supplier of single and multiple RJ-45 jacks with internal 10/100/1000 Ethernet magnetics, LAN transformers/filters, miniature power inductors and other magnetic components as well as DC/DC converters with power ratings from 0.25 to 60 W. Just a few weeks ago, volume production of wide-input 15- to- 40-W DC/DC converters with increased efficiency and dramatically reduced dimensions has been started.

Also new are four families of non isolated DC/DC converters that have been designed to replace linear regulators. The 01D, 02D, 03D and 04D series are specified with current ratings of 0.5, 6, 10 and 16 A and provide a user programmable output voltage down to 0.75 V. Compared to linear regulators these products offer remarkably reduced reduced power losses, do not require voluminous heat sinks and include under -voltage lockout.

In 1998 YDS had been qualified to ISO9002. In 2001 the company was certified to ISO9001:2000. YDS is committed to provide products with excellent quality, high reliability, fl exible delivery, and, most importantly, is strategically setting its resources, such as a manufacturing base in China to be cost competitive. To minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by producing activities, and to achieve continual improvement of its environmental performance, YDS puts lots of effort on limiting harmful materials and has been approved to ISO14001:2004 environmental management in 2005. IECQ080000 Hazardous Substance Process Management certification was awarded in 2008.

To ensure that all its products meets the RoHS standard, YDS recently added an Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) device. This system can quickly detect Cd, Pb, Hg, Br, Cr, Cl or any substances specified in the RoHS directive and represents YDS’ accomplishment to meet customers requirements of RoHS compliant products.

MSC Vertriebs GmbH distributes the new 7 Inch display of the manufacturer Hitachi. The panel is ideal suited for various applications in monitoring, media terminals and user interfaces in rugged industrial environment.

It features the latest and innovative IPS-Pro technology, which makes it superior to other panels with common TN cell structure. Advantages are stable color image from any viewing angle, excellent color saturation and very high contrast.

The aspect ratio is 15:9 wide format by a resolution of 800x480 pixels.

Infinitely variable dimming of the LED backlight is possible, due to an integrated LED driver. The typical brightness is 450 cd/m2 and the contrast is specified with 600:1.

The proportion of bezel to screen is significantly benignant, which enables space-saving applications. The outline measures 165 x 104 x 12,8 mm.

Operating temperature ranges from -30 up to +85 degrees Celsius.

On customer request the MSC delivers the display with laminated analogue resistive type touch screen.
