The LatticeECP3 Versa Development Kit is the industry’s lowest cost design platform for building leading edge systems in a variety of markets such as industrial networking, industrial automation, computing, medical equipment, defense, and consumer electronics. It brings high-end innovations -- configurable SERDES, cascadable DSP slices, and high-speed DDR3 memory within the reach of mainstream designers in an easy to use environment. The Versa Kit empowers designers to build both PCI Express and Gigabit Ethernet based systems. The Kit offers free design tools, readymade demos, reference designs, a versatile evaluation board, and a serial programming cable. The evaluation board features an LFE3-35EA-8FN484C FPGA device, 64 Mbit SPI Flash, 1Gbit DDR3 memory, expansion headers, several LEDs, and user switches. It contains a PCI Express x1 (Half-length form-factor), two RJ45, and 4 SMA interfaces.

Demo Applications

• PCI Express - Basic Demo
  The demo includes a simple GUI-based application along with an API and device drivers for use on any Windows PC. It enables typical PCIe card functionality in a PC, showing simple interaction between the demo running on the PC and the PCI Express IP core on the evaluation board.

• PCI Express - Throughput Demo
  This demo demonstrates and measures performance bandwidth between the PCI Express IP core and the LatticeECP3 SERDES, specifically measuring data rates for reads from PC memory and writes to PC memory.

• PCI Express - Scatter Gather DMA Demo #1 - Color Bar
  The demo makes use of both the Lattice PCI Express and Scatter-Gather DMA IP cores. The demo transfers a color bar gradient image from the evaluation board memory to PC memory for display, showing simple block transfers graphically through the change in colors.

• PCI Express - Scatter Gather DMA Demo #2 - Image Transfer
  This demo also makes use of the Lattice PCI Express and Scatter-Gather DMA IP cores. It shows the capability of the cores to perform large block transfers by transferring an image from the PC to the board and back to the demo application.

• SERDES Eye Demo This demo demonstrates the electrical characteristics of the LatticeECP3 SerDes.

• Tri-speed Ethernet MAC Demo
  This demo demonstrates the capabilities of the Tri-speed MAC IP Core using the Mico32 Soft-Processor Core.

• SERDES Eye Demo This demo demonstrates the electrical characteristics of the LatticeECP3 SerDes.

• DDR3 Demo
  This demo demonstrates the functionality of the DDR3 memory controller operating at 400 MHz (800 Mbps).

If you currently do not have access to Lattice’s award-winning Diamond Design Software, then Lattice would like to offer you a free Diamond license for the Versa Kit. This offer is valid only during the limited time promotion of the Versa Kit. The Diamond license will allow you to run the demos and build your own systems. Please note that this free license is valid for Diamond versions 1.2 or later and can be used only with the LatticeECP3 Versa Development Kit. The free Diamond License will be valid for one year from the activation or July 31st, 2012 at the latest.
