Storage solutions by Samsung
Everybody is familiar with Samsung as a leading provider of products in
entertainment technology, whether mobile phones, LCD TVs or LED TVs. Over the
past few years, the Korean manufacturer has become one of the top brands in
nearly every market it serves.
But there's one thing only a few know. For 15 years, Samsung Semiconductor
has been the world's leading provider of storage solutions for PCs and mobile
entertainment technology.
Every year, Samsung manufactures more than 100 million DRAM storage modules.
Each module is tested thoroughly in multiple steps on the latest equipment,
first at the level of every installed component, and then once more for every
finished working memory module. This effort pays off with anunsurprisingly
positive result. In comparison with DRAM modules from other storage providers,
Samsung memory has by far the lowest error and failure rates.
But Samsung doesn't stop at intensive testing of existing technologies. Year
after year, the company also invests the industry's largest sums for research
and development of its storage technology and fabrication processes. For you, as
an MSC customer, this means nothing less than the ongoing optimum
price/performance ratio for the latest in storage technology.
MSC currently offers an extensive Samsung product range of
DDR, DDR2, and of course the latest
DDR3 memory.
Another product area in the PC environment are so-called "Solid State
Drives", or "SSD". Put simply, these are the next generation of hard drives for
data storage on PCs.
Unlike conventional hard drives, however, an SSD has no disks, motors, or
other moving parts. Just as in MP3 players, all data is stored on flash memory.
This provides a series of advantages over conventional hard drives: SSDs are
significantly faster in read/write operations, but consume only a fraction of
the energy.
For instance, your laptop could run up to 30 minutes longer on batteries. And
the fact that SSDs have no moving parts also means a much lower risk of failure:
With a Samsung SSD, fearful "head crashes" are a thing of the past.
